What Is Hourly-to-Salary Conversion?

Definition

Under Chinese labor standards: 21.75 paid days per month ((365−104 rest days)÷12), daily = monthly÷21.75, hourly = daily÷8. A 10k monthly salary ≈ 57.5 yuan/hour. True hourly must count hidden hours: a nominal 965 role that runs 996 yields 10k÷(21.75×11) = 41.8 yuan/hour — 27% below the 965 peer. Overtime multipliers: 1.5× weekdays, 2× rest days (when no comp day off), 3× statutory holidays — the hourly rate is the base for all of it.

Formula

Hourly = monthly ÷ 21.75 ÷ 8; under 996: monthly ÷ 21.75 ÷ 11

Worked Example

At 15k/month on 965, the rate is 86 yuan/hour; an 18k offer running 10.5-hour days pays 76 yuan/hour — nominally +20%, really −12%.

Common Misconception

"A higher annual figure is automatically better" — normalize to true hourly plus commute and health costs first. And overtime is not computed on base pay — the legal base is full wages including allowances; using base salary alone is a common violation.
