What Is Social Insurance + Housing Fund?
Definition
Employee shares are typically 8% pension, 2% medical, 0.5% unemployment and 5–12% housing fund; employers add 25–35%. The housing fund is fully yours — matched 1:1 by the employer.
Formula
Take-home = gross − employee share − income tax
Worked Example
On a 10k Beijing salary: 2,250 employee share, 82.5 tax, 7,667.5 take-home — while 2,400 lands in the housing fund account.
Common Misconception
"Heavy social-insurance deductions are a bad deal" - pension and housing fund are personal-account or lifetime entitlements; paying on the minimum base looks better now but hurts long-term pension and housing-fund loan capacity.
