Core answer: Sphere volume V = (4/3)πr³; surface area S = 4πr². A basketball (r ≈ 12 cm) holds ~7.2 L; Earth (r ≈ 6,371 km) has surface ~510 million km². The cubic scaling is brutal: double the radius and you get 8× the volume but only 4× the surface — the reason cells stay small and planets stay warm.

Why the 4πr² is beautiful
